The Candle of Hope ceremony is one of the most moving moments of the Relay weekend.
As darkness falls, candles are lit around the track in memory of loved ones lost to cancer, in support of those currently facing cancer, and in celebration of survivors and their journeys.
Each candle tells a story. Together they create a powerful display of hope, remembrance and community.

Every Candle Bag represents someone special.
Whether you’re remembering a loved one, celebrating a survivor, supporting someone facing cancer, or simply standing in hope for a better future, your dedication becomes part of a powerful display of light around the Relay track.
Together, these candles tell the stories that inspire us to keep fighting cancer and remind us why we Relay.

THE CEREMONY
As we prepare for the Candle Of Hope ceremony at 22:30, the music is softened and people start to gather on the track.
Lighting The Way To Hope
We start with the Lighting The Way To Hope lap, where we all gather, lit up and walk to Hope Hill really for the ceremony. Candle bags light up the track to show the way.
The ceremony
A short ceremony starts at Hope Hill, an opportunity to reflect and remember loved ones to cancer.
Lap of Hope
We finish with one final lap of Hope, where we walk for a future where everyone survives cancer.
